Clint Therakam

Presenter: Clint Therakam - 2015 Overall winner in the MTQ Year 9 - 12 category
Integration in 2D and 3D involving cylindrical coordinates
Integration is highly applicable, not only in the field of pure mathematics, but also in three-dimensional graphics modelling and fluid engineering applications. Cylindrical and polar coordinate systems have been utilised to find the volume of a commonly used real-world construction component: a cement truck barrel, as it involves radial symmetry.

Clint is a currently second year Engineering and Science Dual Degree student at UQ (University of Queensland), majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering and physics respectively. I enjoy tutoring, coach and compete in chess and take part in cycling, running and rock climbing. In his busy schedule is also is works as an Education Queensland Teacher – Tutoring Yr 12 students in literacy primarily and mathematics at IB School QASM and Chess Coach in Gardiner, Nudgee College, Southside Junior Club.

MTQ 2016

Presenter: Gavin Choong - 2015 Overall winner in the MTQ Year 9  category
Alice in the function of (x) or Alice in f(x)

'My goal in writing the story was to provide readers with a foresight into complex mathematical ideas, but through the parody of a well-known children's story, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. By interweaving different mathematical tasks but into everyday problems, my story shows the importance of math in day-to-day life, as well as gives a fun and enjoyable perspective to the reader.'

Gavin is currently in Year 10 at Tintern Grammar and participatse in many school ensembles, the local tennis club, as well as enjoy mathematics and physics.  Added to his string of achievements, Gavin has high distinctions for ICAS Math and ICAS Science held  by University of New South Wales as well as honours in Music theory Grade 5 and Grade 7 Piano.

Atticus Holt

Presenter: Atticus Holt - 2015 winner in the MTQ Early Years category
