National professional standards for accomplished primary teaching are being developed during 2009.
When completed, the standards for accomplished primary teaching will comprise the Charter for the Australian teaching profession, the agreed advanced teaching capabilities and descriptors of accomplishment in primary teaching.
The focus of the work in 2009 is the development of descriptors that identify the specialised knowledge and skills that make up accomplished primary teaching. The relationship between the three components is best seen in the diagram below:
